Violin and piano

An evening among friends with Fauré

With Frank Braley, Piano

Composer, talented and inspired organist, director of the Paris Conservatoire: Gabriel Fauré's career reflects the entire French musical and artistic effervescence of the second half of the 19th century.

A pupil of Saint-Saëns, a teacher of Ravel, an influence on Debussy, a lover of Pauline Viardot's daughter, the talents who crossed his path are countless, from George Sand and Flaubert to Liszt, Chausson, Lalo, Lili and Nadia Boulanger... not to mention the musicians he met in Parisian salons : Duparc, Franck, Massenet...

His first sonata for violin and piano, composed in 1875-76, inspired by his discovery of the virtuosos Sarasate and Vieuxtemps, marked the start of a new era in French chamber music and paved the way for those of Franck, Lekeu, Pierné and d'Indy.
