Quintet with viola and double bass

Auf dem Wasser

With Violaine Despeyroux, viola & Yann Dubost, double bass

This unique piano quintet composed by Schubert takes its name "Die Forelle" from the variations on the song of the same name, which tells the story of a joyful trout who falls into a fisherman's trap. The song was a huge success, and Schubert was asked in the summer of 1819, during a stay in Upper Austria, to incorporate it into a chamber music work. At the time of composing this quintet, Schubert was surrounded by friends, in a warm and carefree atmosphere, and would say at the end of this happy period: "Always enjoy the present with discernment, so that the past will be a beautiful memory for you and the future will not be a scarecrow."
